Rashies are for kids | Honeybell Waterwear is for you.
It's Annaliese here, Honeybell Waterwear founder.
A family beach holiday in early 2015 proved to be life changing. I realised how much effort I was putting into keeping my children safe from the sun, yet how little effort I put into protecting my own skin.
I have the type of skin that burns, so I was always pretty good at practising the Cancer Council’s the Slip! Slop! Slap! message. A key component of this message is “slip on clothing”, and I thought that wearing a t-shirt was enough. But when I started looking into it and learned that the average white cotton t-shirt only has a UPF 5, it motivated me to buy a ‘rashie’ for myself.
I tried to find a rash vest I thought was flattering and fashionable, but couldn’t find anything that I felt beautiful or confident wearing. The experience got me thinking; if wearing a rashie is making me feel body and fashion conscious, then other women are probably feeling that way too. From this came the idea for a fashionable sun safe clothing line for women. And in September 2016 I launched Honeybell Waterwear!
Other than providing a high level of sun protection, in fact, the highest possible level, the end result is a looooong way from the regular rashie!
Everything I do at Honeybell Waterwear is underpinned by one simple design philosophy: Functional done beautifully.
This means I have focused the designs on giving you the very best:
Within 6 months of launching Honeybell Waterwear we were recognised as an elite Australian small business, winning a 2017 Australian Small Business Champions award for best New Business. We've also been nominated for a Monash Business Award and named a finalist in the Brilliant Biz Mum Awards, for Best Innovative Product, recognising our ability to put a fashionable and modern twist on previously functional rash guards.
So there you have it - now that you know that the average white cotton t-shirt only has a UPF 5 and now that you know you don't have to settle for an ugly rashie - you have no excuses! It's time to enjoy the sun safely by shopping the latest trend hitting the beaches this summer!
As a member of the UN Women National Committee Australia, Honeybell Waterwear is proud to donate 10% of profits to the UN Women. Why? Because I believe that programs that support women are programs that support for the world.
